It was building up the entire game when it exploded at the end of the fourth quarter after Thompson hit a jumper over Brooks. The Warriors star heavily taunted Brooks who was laying on the ground and received a technical foul for it.
After the game, the Grizzlies guard was not happy with the way the referees handled the game.
"Refs let it happen. He was doing it all game then they want to catch the bad guy. That's wack to me," Brooks was mad. "F***ing up calls and putting the wrong guys at the free-throw line. It was a circus. Should have had different refs."
The player is not completely wrong here as the game featured an episode where James Wiseman was fouled by Jaren Jackson Jr. but Klay Thompson was sent to the line to shoot the two free throws.
The episode between Klay Thompson and Dillon Brooks:
Thompson himself had a different explanation of what happened between him and Brooks.
"He was talking dynasty and all that. You can't talk dynasty when you haven't won," Thompson told after the match. "I don't think people realize how hard that is, the commitment and sacrifice it takes. You have to sacrifice your body."
"I thought it was premature talk to even mention that word. They bring the best out of us, I think we do the same. If you don't like them, you have to respect them because they're a threat," Klay concluded.
Besides Thompson, Brooks had some episodes with Draymond Green as well, at one time telling the referees to calm the forward down only to be trash-talked back. With a minute left in the game, Green demonstratively put his tongue out passing past Brooks on his way to the free-throw line,
The two clubs met in last year's NBA playoffs. The Warriors beat the Grizzlies in the Western Conference semifinal but the up-and-coming young Memphis roster made rounds on social media claiming to be the next big thing, sparking a mild beef among the players.
