Olympiacos Piraeus announced earlier today that the club has reached an agreement with Sasha Vezenkov to extend his contract until 2025.

The Bulgarian forward had previously signed a deal to stay in Piraeus until 2024. Following the news, Gazzetta.gr reported the rationale behind the decision from both sides.

First, Vezenkov will receive an increase in his salary throughout the remainder of the contract as a reward for his excellent performance on the court. Sport24.gr report that Vezenkov's salary will jump from €900,000 this season to €1.5 million next year and close to €2 million if he stays for the 2024-25 season.

Interestingly, the Bulgarian star wouldn't crack the Top-15 of EuroLeague's highest-paid players even with the salary increase for the next season.

In return, the team will receive a possible benefit in the future.

Vezenkov is being monitored by the Sacramento Kings, which hold the NBA rights of the player, for a possible arrival in the NBA. If the Olympiacos star were to transfer his talents to the other side of the Atlantic, the Greek club would receive a bigger buyout as a result of the move.

According to Sport24.gr, Olympiacos would get a buyout in the range of $1 million to $1.5 million.

After a solid 2021-22 season in Europe, Vezenkov has been dominating this year, averaging 19.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.2 steals for a league-leading 25.3 PIR in the EuroLeague this season.

"It started as a great opportunity. It quickly became my home and now can be considered part of me and the place I belong to. I want to thank Olympiacos' presidents, my coaches, my teammates, and the whole organization for the trust," Vezenkov wrote on his Instagram profile.

"Special thanks to my family and friends who are always next to me and push me to go beyond. I also want to thank our amazing fans for the support. We continue with hard work and humility to achieve our goals," the player posted.
