However, Wood is now eligible to sign a 4-year, $77 million extension. If Mavericks and Wood won't reach an agreement before the February 9 deadline, the 27-year-old forward becomes a free agent in the summer.
"I'm happy to be here. That's what I'll say," Wood told ESPN after his 30-point performance in a Christmas win against the Lakers. "The vibe is good. I'm open to it [staying]."
One of the biggest concerns regarding Wood is his defensive abilities. The Mavericks allowed 119.8 points per 100 possessions when Wood plays as the lone big man in lineups with Luka Doncic, according to data frompbpstats.com. However, the same lineup accumulates 121.9 points per 100 possessions.
Wood averages 17.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game in 35 contests this season.
