With over a minute to go in the third quarter, Jimmy Butler had the ball with several seconds left in the shot clock. The Heat star drove to the basket past Seth Curry, attempted a tough contested layup, and got blocked by Ben Simmons.
After the attempt, Butler inadvertently landed on Kevin Durant's right leg, forcing his knee to bend sideways. The Nets superstar immediately fell to the ground, grabbing his right knee.
KD kept rubbing the knee going down the court until head coach Jacque Vaughn had to take a timeout for the star forward to be substituted. He left the game and did not return.
The specialist revealed after the match that Durant is expected to undergo an MRI on Monday that will reveal the severity of the injury.
"I was right there. Those plays are scary," Kyrie Irving said about the episode in the post-game press conference. "I think one of the greatest qualities of our team is our bench and the way we support each other, despite who's in the lineup. And now it's time to go out and exemplify that until we find out the timeline with K and when he could be available again. So we just got to be mature about it."
"It doesn't feel good emotionally to be honest with you," Kyrie told. "With K we know what we're up against with him not being in the lineup. We could say it every single day. We don't have time for any excuses, we just got to keep moving forward and staying mature about it, like I said."
