Ever since he became the global superstar that he now is, Doncic has been fighting to regain control of his name and likeness. Doncic initially tried to register "Luka Doncic" as a trademark but it was dismissed due to the existing "Luka Doncic 7" trademark.
"I have a lot to look forward to as I continue to grow as a player and a person and it’s important to me to control my own brand and focus on giving back to my communities," the player said to NBA insider Marc Stein in September.
The initial logo with Doncic's name and surname and the number 7 underneath was used at the beginning of his years in the NBA after getting drafted by the Dallas Mavericks. A few years later, the Slovenian superstar introduced a new logo, in which his shirt number 77 is shaped into his initials LD. The latter logo is being used on all of Doncic's apparel and footwear at this moment.

Luka gave his consent to Poterbin during his debut season in the NBA (2018-19) and has been trying to gain control back in recent years. It even escalated to a point where Doncic had to provide written notice.
Conflicting trademarks currently prevent Doncic from gaining full control over his name, brand, and charitable foundation.
