Hayes-Davis scored 10 of his 24 points in the overtime, but the 28-year-old American did not forget about Marko Guduric's heroics.
"We have to give credit to the team," Hayes-Davis said in his post-game interview for EuroLeague TV. "We didn't execute [our gameplan] tremendously. It shouldn't have gone to overtime."
"One mistake we kept making over and over was [Panathinaikos] offensive rebounds. Primarily, Ponitka. He single-handedly kept them in the game and had a chance to win it at the end.
Fortunately, basketball gods were on our side, and the game went overtime, thanks to a huge play by Marko. Very Reggie Miller-esque. Great team win," Hayes-Davis concluded.
With 34.8 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Panathinaikos were up by 5 points (78-73).
After that, something hardly imaginable happened. Carsen Edwards made a successful drive into the paint, making it a 3-point game with 31.8 seconds left. Dejan Radonjic took a timeout, but Panathinaikos didn't even manage to cross the halfcourt.
Paris Lee lost the ball after being double-teamed, while seconds later, Guduric made a 3-pointer, tying the game at 78.
Panathinaikos dominated the board, winning it 45-31. 26 out of 45 rebounds were offensive, which is the 2nd-best result of all-time in the EuroLeague. Ponitka alone grabbed 10 offensive boards.
Yet, Panathinaikos suffered their 6th defeat in a row, making it the longest losing streak in the club's history in the EuroLeague.
