Via the report, the such move was encouraged by the professional director of the Israeli national teams, Pini Gershon.
Laso is currently without a contract after parting ways with Real Madrid last summer.
The 55-year-old Spanish specialist was hospitalized following a myocardial infarction in early June 2022. Real cited medical concerns over his health, when going separate ways with a long-time head coach.
Laso's era at Real Madrid is marked by a total of 22 titles, including two EuroLeague trophies and six ACB championships.
The coach recently told he's feeling great and is ready for new challenges.
Last November, Guy Goodes resigned from the head coach position of the Israeli NT following the disappointing result at FIBA EuroBasket 2022 when Israel failed to qualify for the playoffs stage.
The next big task of the Israeli NT is the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament in the summer of 2023.
Israel has no chance to qualify for FIBA World Cup 2023, therefore the February window is just a mere formality.
