Just before the game started, the Monegasque team's head coach Sasa Obradovic made a gesture before the match, kissing the logo of the Serbian team in the middle of the court.
Throughout his career, Obradovic has been a part of the Crvena Zvezda organization both as a player and a coach. After the match, he admitted that it was tough to hold his emotions back.
"At one point, it was difficult for me to concentrate. Thank you for the great welcome and respect. I am glad that in some way I returned to the family," the specialist said.
"There is no happier person than me. Imagine, 60 percent on this side and 40 percent of Partizan's world are applauding me in Serbia," Obradovic was happy. "[Is there a place] where it is more beautiful?"
Before joining Monaco, Obradovic coached Crvena Zvezda but was let go after a disappointing start in the EuroLeague with 5 wins in 16 matches.
"Everything has always been open as far as I'm concerned. One thing [is that] no one heard my story at the end of the day. Considering that I grew up here, I know every step," Obradovic said. "When I won with Nes Ilic and other players, a lot of effort was put in, so this team could experience what's happening now. At this moment, [they are] a regular EuroLeague player."
After his departure, Crvena Zvezda won the Radivoj Korac Cup. Obradovic could have gotten a bonus for his part in the equation but never asked for it.
"The bonuses for the Cup have nothing to do with the relationship. The most important thing is that everyone here at the club knows what kind of person I am. I don't need to explain that to anyone. I can't be different," Obradovic concluded.
