The Hellenic Basketball Federation has opened up an investigation into possible match-fixing during a game in the Greek League (ESAKE) on Saturday where Kolossos H Hotels Rhodes beat Ionikos Nikaia at home 89-to-48. Both teams decided to release statements regarding the situation.

Most betting companies had the game handicap at -10.5 for the home team before the match. However, as the start time got closer, the handicap rose to -28.5 and the match was withdrawn from the vast majority of bookmakers.

According to BN Sports, the Federation had been following the case all along, gathering the necessary information about the game. Next Monday (Jan. 16), the file containing some details will be sent to the General Secretariat of Sports as well as to the competent Prosecutor's Office, asking for full clarification.

The team from Rhodes was the first to put out an official statement regarding the situation:

On the occasion of what was said and written after the match against Ionikos, we clearly state: Kolossos Rhodes, respecting its history, respecting the sports principles, values, and sports ideals that it advocates since the first day of its establishment, will be an ally with every move of the Hellenic Basketball Federation, ESAKE, and any other body. for the good of the sport and the Basket League. Our team has proven that it only plays to win for 17 years now.

Hours later, Ionikos released their official position as well:

The management of Ionikos announces unequivocally and without a second thought that it is in complete agreement and will assist, as requested, in any investigation carried out by any competent body regarding the Kolossos Rhodes-Ionikos Nikaia match, which took place yesterday in Rhodes, and/or any other match of our team.

For our part, we are committed to helping in any way we are asked, so that there is no shadow, neither on our team nor on the Basket League championship, in which we participate.

The federation had recently sent a file to the Greek sports prosecutor regarding another game that Ionikos played in the league, but no information about the course of the investigation has been made available.
