Nemanja Bjelica was the biggest offseason signing for Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul when he decided to return to Europe after becoming an NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors but he hasn't played a single minute for the team yet.

After overcoming Frutti Extra Bursaspor in the Turkish Super League (BSL) yesterday, the club's head coach Dimitris Itoudis gave an update about the player's current status.

"The right person to answer this question is our team doctor," Itoudis said when asked about Bjelica's health. "Lastly, I was told that he was very close to being included in the team but that he felt something in his Achilles recently, and a more detailed observation is being made about this."

"It would be beneficial for our doctor to give a more professional answer about this. Under normal circumstances, he should have been included in the team after this match but we will see where we are when we return," the coach explained.

Bjelica has been sidelined since August when he suffered a calf injury during a friendly match against Montenegro. He managed to play two games in the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers against Latvia and Belgium, averaging 6.5 points, 4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game for 5 PIR.

With 12 wins and 7 losses, Fenerbahce share 2nd place in the EuroLeague standings with FC Barcelona, Olympiacos Piraeus, and AS Monaco, who they play against this week.
