It was the 61-year-old's 208th win coaching the team in his second stint, passing the previous record-holder Allan Bristow, who coached the team in the 1992-96 seasons.
Clifford had previously coached the Hornets in the 2014-18 seasons, finishing his tenure with a record of 196-214.
The late Paul Silas sits in 3rd place with 193 wins.
With a current record of 12 wins and 34 losses, the Hornets have the second-worst record in the NBA, only ahead of the Rockets.
