This year it's Chus Mateo's time to lead the squad to titles. Talking about the two specialists, Llull admits that it's natural to compare them.
"When a coach has worked for as many years at a club as Pablo has at Real, when he has achieved so much, it is natural to compare eras and situations," the player told Gazzetta.gr. "You have to enjoy every season. I learned a lot with Pablo. I enjoyed basketball and I am grateful to him for the confidence he gave me. Now we have to continue working with Chus to win more titles."
"I think Pablo left a very distinctive and very dynamic style of play. It is what marked Real in previous years. To play defense, collect the rebounds, and run to surprise [the opponent]. It was very attractive and intriguing to the viewer," Llull explained Pablo Laso's legacy. "That's what I think is his legacy, [it's] Real's very special style of play."
The Spanish guard is now 35 years old. He's no longer the main part of Real's offense, he's now a role player tasked to do specific things during specific moments of the matches.
Llull's long-time rival Vassilis Spanoulis has already started his coaching career. Llull's not so sure he would like to follow the same path.
"Of course, you should never rule something out, but I think being a coach is very, very difficult," he explained why he wouldn't like to become a coach after he ends his playing career.
"You have to spend endless hours on this job. We come, we practice, we play, and we go home. Coaches watch videos and games, analyze opponents, and insist on detail over and over again. It's a very tough job, but nobody knows what might happen in the future," Llull said.
