Everything escalated right after the second-quarter buzzer sounded when Sharpe said Dillon Brooks was too small to guard LeBron James. Both persons exchanged curse words, and referees and security had to intervene to cool off the conflict, which involved more and more people.
Brooks had some spicy post-game comments about the whole sequence.
"I ain't talking about that. You can ask him. He's the blogger or whatever he is. I don't really care about all that. Next question," he said of Shannon Sharpe, viaDave McMenamin of ESPN.
The current Fox Sports commentator Sharpe was escorted by security through the tunnel to a back hallway of the arena, where he stayed for halftime before returning to his seat for the third quarter.
Brooks believes that Sharpe, as a fan, shouldn't have been allowed to stay at the arena after the halftime verbal altercation.
"A regular pedestrian like him? No. He should have never come back in the game, but it's LA," a Grizzlies player noted.
The Lakers ended up winning the game over Grizzlies, 122-121.
