The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Houston Rockets 113-104 on Saturday night, behind a season-high 44 points from Anthony Edwards and 23 points from D'Angelo Russell. For the first time this season, Edwards scored over 40 points on 17/29 FGs, including seven 3-pointers.

The day was special for Edwards as his girlfriend’s birthday was approaching and he surely had to put on a performance for her. The Houston Rockets were nearly defeated by Edwards alone thanks to a sequence of outstanding plays and dominating dunks.

Edwards delivered two thunderous hammers, with Alperen Sengun standing on the wrong side of the poster.

Those plays didn't prevent the athletic forward from respecting his opponent, even if he had trouble remembering his name.

"I told Kenyon Martin Jr. coming out of halftime, I'm going to dunk on him again because he's so far down the floor. All praise to, I don't know how to pronounce his name, number 28 Sengun. He's good," Edwards said after the game.

In that game, Alperen Sengun took advantage of the Timberwolves’ absence of Rudy Gobert (right groin tightness) for the third straight game by scoring 19 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. A few days ago, Nikola Jokic was full of praise for him, even saying that Houston should involve him more in the game.

Edwards was later asked about his performance vs the Rockets.

"My girlfriend's birthday is in two days, man, she is going out of the country, so I had to put on a show for her," he told the media.

He even graded his dunks and said "I could’ve gone a little higher."

Minnesota have a record of 24–24 as they sit 7th in the Western Conference just behind the reigning champions, Golden State Warriors.
