He answered very kindly and gave me all the details. 'I can do nothing' that was the answer. I understand his position. I can't control what he wants to do or not want to do, so I have to accept and train hard," Campazzo said of his and Glickman's exchange after the ABA League win vs. Cedevita Olimpija.
Due to sanctions imposed by the independent EuroLeague body, the Management Control Commission (MCC), Campazzo won't be able to make his EuroLeague debut with Red Star until March 1st.
Although Glickman had the authority to grant amnesty, he emphasized that his ultimate goal was to make the best decisions for all players involved.
"It wasn't a question of, 'Can Campazzo play or not play.' It wasn't anything to do with Campazzo. We have to uphold the integrity of the system, particularly in a situation where we're doing precisely what the Management Control Commission asked us to do.
So I didn't feel that it was at all appropriate for the CEO to step in and change something that had been going on for quite some time," Glickman declared in an interview with BasketNews.
Facu Campazzo also touched on the latest reports from his native Argentina.
Basquet Plus earlier informed that Campazzo is expected to join the Argentine NT in the upcoming do-or-die FIBA window for the South American giant. Argentina plays unbeaten Canada on February 23 and its direct opponent, Dominican Republic, on February 26. Both games will be played at home.
Campazzo says that there is an idea to help the national team to secure a ticket to FIBA World Cup 2023.
"I always want to play for the national team, even when I can't, like when I was in the EuroLeague and the NBA. Now, I don't play in the EuroLeague and the idea is to try to leave Zvezda for the national team [in late February]. There are still many days left, anything can happen, but the idea is to help the national team and be there for the coach [Pablo Prigioni]," the 31-year-old guard said.
