According to Shams Charania from The Athletic, the Suns offered the Nets Chris Paul, Jae Crowder, and a future first-round pick. The team from Brooklyn was initially interested but wanted the Suns to include two more first-rounders, Charania writes.
Phoenix refused and the deal's momentum started to fade.
The Lakers, meanwhile, offered a package of Russell Westbrook and two first-round picks in 2027 and 2029. The Nets wanted some young players, particularly Austin Reaves and Max Christie, to be included in the deal, and the Lakers refused.
The Lakers also wanted Irving to sign the contract extension which would have tied him with the franchise until the end of the 2024-25 season, the exact same date when LeBron James' contract expires. Irving reportedly wants to play his current deal out and test free agency during the summer.
Irving has been averaging 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists for the Nets this season.
