The move also creates a little bit more room for the luxury tax.
This trade is historic because, for the first time in Heat history, they're making an exchange with the Spurs. Though, Miami got nothing in return.
Meanwhile, Dedmon comes back to San Antonio after playing there in the 2016-17 season.
The 33-year-old center is making $4.7 million this season and has a non-guaranteed contract for next season.
Dedmon has appeared in 30 games this season for Miami, all off the bench, averaging 5.7 points and 3.6 rebounds.
NBA veteran received a hefty fine and a one-game suspension for tossing a massage gun earlier this season. The outburst fired up the previous talks about his trade.
