The move lets Brooklyn save a total of $8M in salary and luxury tax and open up a roster spot.
Edwards has already approved the trade, as he had to do so due to a "one-year Bird Rights restriction" in his deal, Wojnarowski adds.
Per the NBA insider, the Kings intend to give Edwards an opportunity to play with their G League affiliate in Stockton, but with two days to go until the trade deadline, his future will remain fluid.
Edwards, 22, has averaged 1.1 points and 1.0 rebounds over 14 games this season.
The Nets selected the 6-foot-8 Edwards, who played at Pepperdine, with the No. 44 overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft and signed him to a two-way contract.
He spent part of the last season with the Long Island Nets of the G League but appeared in 48 games (23 starts) for Brooklyn.
