James made a step-back jumper with 10.9 seconds remaining in the third quarter. The game was temporarily stopped to honor LeBron's achievement.

Kareem symbolically passed the ball to James, which looked like the pass of a torch.

In a 130-133 loss vs. Thunder, Jamesfinished with 38 points (9/14 2PT, 4/6 3PT, 8/10 FT), 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 4 turnovers.

Abdul-Jabbar has been atop the career points list since April 5, 1984, when he broke the mark previously held by Wilt Chamberlain. Now, James is the new record holder.

"The scoring record was never, ever even thought of in my head because I've always been a pass-first guy," James admitted to ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

LeBron's most efficient season points-wise was back in the 2005-06 season. Back then, he scored 2478 points in total (averaging 31.4 points per game). Over his career, James scored more than 2000 points in one season ten times.

"LeBron has taken care of himself so well, and he's been able to play a bundle of games for a lot of years," said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. "His commitment to the game and to what he has to do has allowed himself to be in this position."

LeBron only led the NBA in scoring for one season. By comparison, Adrian Dantley, who's not even among the top 30 scorers of all time, did that twice. By comparison, Jordan did that 10 times.

"It's just amazing to watch him," Luka Doncic said earlier this season. "It's his 20th season, and what he's doing -- he's scoring 30, 40 almost every night. He's just incredible."
