Steve Kerr from the Golden State Warriors will serve as the head coach in the 2023 FIBA World Cup in Indonesia, Japan, and The Philippines. Alongside Kerr, Miami Heat's Erik Spoelstra and Gonzaga's Mark Few will join him as assistant coaches.
Phoenix Suns, who recently acquired Kevin Durant in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets, head coach Monty Williams was initially named to be the third assistant coach but he will miss the tournament due to family commitments, the US basketball federation announced.
Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue will replace Williams and take his spot instead, the federation writes.
"I'm excited to extend this opportunity to Coach Lue as the United States looks to continue its success on the international stage," the team's managing director Grant Hill said. "I want to thank Coach Williams for his commitment to USA Basketball and absolutely understand the difficult choice he made. As a longtime men's national team coach, he is an important member of the USA Basketball family."
