According to Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN, the Magic and Ross are finalizing a contract buyout that would make the player a free agent.

Ross signed a 4-year, $54 million deal with the Magic back in 2019 with an annual salary of $13.5 million. The guard is set to earn $11.5 million during the 2022-23 season.

With a contract buyout, both sides mutually agree to end the contract with the team paying a portion of the salary. In return, the player becomes a free agent and can then choose whichever team he wants to continue his career in.

The Dallas Mavericks, who recently acquired Kyrie Irving in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets, have emerged as the favorites to land Ross, Wojnarowski notes.

So far this year, Ross has been averaging 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game for the Magic. He was drafted with the 8th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft and has won the NBA Dunk Contest back in 2013.
