Despite a 133-128 overtime loss against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday night, Doncic was happy of being able to play with such talent as Kyrie.
"Amazing, man," Doncic shared his first impressions, via Grant Afseth of Dallas Basketball. "It was only our first game together. I think it's so fun to play with this guy. He's an amazing basketball player. I think it's going to be really fun. Today, first time, it was really fun.
"I think the whole team thinks that. Not just me. Exciting, man. Still a learning process, especially for me. But it's so fun to play with him."
Luka also commented on the 2-man game with Irving as a late-game option.
"I think that could be really lethal for us," he said. "I think it's hard to guard both of us. There's going to be less doubles, just us get to work."
"I thought it was good," coach Jason Kidd said on the first look at the Doncic-Irving duo. "For the first time for those guys to play minutes together, I thought it was really, really good. It was just natural, nothing forced. To be able to play off of each other late, I think that's just going to make us just that much better."
Doncic had 27 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 6 turnovers in 41 minutes since coming back from his heel injury.
"I was tired," he admitted post-game. "First game back. Overtime. I was pretty tired. It was fun to be back out there. I think you get your condition by playing games. You got to get your legs back. That's the most important thing."
The Slovenian guard had a chance to tie the game and sent it to the second overtime, but his late three-point shot was off the mark. Doncic felt he should have given the ball back to Kyrie Irving before his step-back triple in OT.
"It's my bad. I should have given it back to Kai. For me, it's still a learning process, but, for sure, I should have given it back to him. He was really hot down the stretch. That's on me," he said.
Irving scored 28 points, grabbed 7 boards, and dished out 7 assists in his third game with the Mavs jersey.
