He didn't play on Saturday vs. Obradoiro either, even though he was in the 12-man squad. The Tarrega-born big man has been suffering from back problems for a few months (spondylosis on the right side of the lumbar region).
Even though he was able to do the warm-up session, he didn't suit up in Saturday's clash, where Girona added their eighth triumph of the season (93-76).
Oriola averaged 2.7 points and 3.1 rebounds, with his last game dating back to December 30 against BAXI Manresa.
In its press release, the club does not specify the reasons for his departure but emphasizes that it appreciates his professionalism, and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
Before joining Girona, Oriola had played for Baloncesto Sevilla (2014-16), Valencia Basket Club (2016-17), and FC Barcelona (2017-22). He amassed 142 games in the EuroLeague and 39 in the EuroCup.
He has been international with the Spanish national basketball team since 2017.
