Parker, a minority shareholder from 2009 until 2014, when he took over big-time, has long been thinking about his next move.
However, the idea is not to sell his stocks to John Textor, the new boss of Olympic Lyonnais, who owns 33% of the capital of the most successful club in the history of French basketball, including the last three LNB titles.
Parker, once seen as the successor to Jean-Michel Aulas, at least before the arrival of Textor, has left his seat on the board of directors of the Olympic Lyonnais Group. According to L'Equipe, several sources point to tense relations between the two Lyon-based clubs.
According to the same source, Parker, 40, did not look far away. The NBA legend would indeed like to sell his share to the Franco-Israeli businessman Serge Bueno, currently at the helm of a company named 'Smart Good Things', of which Tony Parker has been a partner since April 2022.
The company specializing in the manufacture of instant drinks represents a major partner for ASVEL. If the sale is completed, however, the 2013 EuroBasket champion isn't slated to leave the club.
L'Equipe mentions that he could take on an executive role. A decision could surprise given the golden age that the basketball club has been experiencing for several years. With Tony Parker in charge, ASVEL has the largest budget in its history this season (15.7 million euros).
ASVEL has again become a leading team in the French championship under Parker's mandate with three consecutive titles and a return to the Euroleague in 2019. However, they're struggling this season, standing in 17th place in EuroLeague and in 7th in the LNB standings.
